The authorities of the Baikonur complex decided to intensify vaccination in the territory due to a possible worsening of the epidemiological situation caused by the measles outbreak in Kazakhstan. This was reported to the city administration.
According to the press service, members of the interdepartmental sanitary and anti-epidemic commission of the city of Baikonur unanimously decided on the need to strengthen vaccination against measles among the population of the Baikonur complex. The decision was made based on the current epidemic situation regarding measles in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Specialists from the regional department of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA) of Russia also took part in the commission meeting.
It is planned to carry out vaccination among population groups with low vaccination coverage, especially among preschool children and schoolchildren. Information about this was confirmed by the administration.
According to the sanitary and epidemiological services of Kazakhstan, since the beginning of the year the number of registered cases of measles has exceeded 7 thousand people. Epidemiologists predict that the peak incidence of measles will occur at the end of autumn.
The largest number of cases is observed in the capital Astana and in the south of the republic, where the Baikonur complex is located.
The Baikonur complex, including the cosmodrome and the city, was leased to Russia for 20 years under an agreement signed in 1994 and a lease agreement dated 1994. In 2004, the lease was extended until 2050. Annual rent is $115 million.
