Head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Khinshtein called the attack on a journalist in Chechnya criminal

“Attacks on journalists (regardless of their position) are criminal and unacceptable,” wrote on Wednesday, Alexander Khinshtein, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications, in his telegram channel, reacting to the attack on Elena Milashina in Chechnya.

According to Khinshtein, the information policy committee is in full solidarity with the UJR and the HRC in this regard, which declared that attacks on journalists were unacceptable.

“We will also send an appeal to the Prosecutor General’s Office and the TFR to take this investigation under special control!” Khinshtein said.

Earlier it was reported that the HRC and the Union of Journalists of Russia (UJR) are investigating the details of the attack on Milashina and lawyer Alexander Nemov in Chechnya. The head of the UJR, Vladimir Solovyov, expressed the hope that the perpetrators would be punished.

Russian Human Rights Ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova sent a telegram to the investigative department of the TFR for Chechnya and the regional prosecutor on the situation with the beating of Milashina, RIA Novosti reported.

On Wednesday morning, unidentified persons attacked journalist Yelena Milashina and lawyer Alexander Nemov, who had flown to Grozny to hear the verdict on Zarema Musayeva.

Nemov told human rights activists that on the way from the airport, their car was blocked by three cars with armed men. It was reported that unknown people not only beat Nemov and Milashina, but also destroyed their equipment and documents.

Now both victims are in the hospital, they are diagnosed with multiple bruises, Milashina has broken fingers.
