State Duma deputy Slutsky called the amounts of compensation to residents of the Orenburg region “ridiculous”

The amounts that will be paid to those affected by the flood in the Orenburg region are ridiculous, said State Duma deputy, leader of the LDPR faction Leonid Slutsky on Tuesday, April 9, speaking with reporters before the start of the plenary session.

He recalled that as a result of the strong level of rising water, more than ten thousand people were injured and some died. Almost 6.5 thousand people left their homes as part of the evacuation.

“This situation needs to be sorted out to prevent similar situations from happening again. The figures that are now being announced regarding compensation to victims are simply ridiculous. We need to pay about 500 thousand rubles, about a million rubles to those who lost their housing,” said Leonid Slutsky.

The parliamentarian also called statements that the dam was damaged by rodents “a mockery.”

Earlier, the authorities of the Orenburg region reported that, by decision of Governor Denis Pasler, each victim would receive 20 thousand rubles. Compensation will also be paid for lost essential property: 50 thousand rubles will be paid to those whose property was damaged, 100 thousand – if the property is completely lost.

Earlier, State Duma deputy Nina Ostanina said that the prosecutor’s office “does not have the right to threaten residents of the flooded Orenburg region with arrests and warn them against participating in mass actions.” The parliamentarian is in the village of Maly Kumachek, where entire streets are in the flood zone.

Let us recall that on April 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Governor Denis Pasler. After discussing the situation resulting from the powerful flood, the head of state decided to send Russian Construction Minister Irek Fayzullin to the region.
