Deputy Nilov ruled out long May holidays at the federal level in 2023
At the federal level, the extension of the May holidays in 2023 is practically impossible, State Duma deputy Yaroslav Nilov said in a conversation with “Lentoy.ru”. A separate legislative framework is needed for the extension, but there will simply not be time for amendments this year.
With regard to additional holidays at the level of subjects, local legislatures can pass such a law. But at the same time, “it is necessary to look at the statutes of the subjects.” “Theoretically, the governor could do it,” the Russian parliamentarian noted. However, as practice has shown, such decisions are usually challenged in court, he noted.
Nilov, in this regard, recalled the New Year’s “calendar bacchanalia” of 2021. Then December 31 fell on a Friday and some regions decided to take a day off, while others did not.
The deputy did not rule out that there will be “some additional initiatives to give the heads of the subjects the appropriate powers.” “But we definitely won’t have time to make changes by the May holidays of 2023,” he stressed.
