The State Duma in the second reading adopted bills on the introduction of administrative and criminal liability for discrediting all participants in the military operation in Ukraine. Discrediting volunteers will be punishable by imprisonment for up to 15 years. The third reading of the bills will take place on March 14.
Amendments are being made to Articles 207.3 and 280.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The punishment under these articles is toughened from three to five years in prison for disseminating false information and repeated discrediting, and from five to seven years if these actions resulted in death or riots. The maximum term of imprisonment is up to 15 years, and fines are up to 5 million rubles.
Changes are also made to Art. 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. Discrediting participants in a military operation, including volunteers, will be punished by a fine of up to 50,000 rubles. for citizens and up to 500 thousand rubles. for legal entities.
