Deputy Pevtsov: the capture of Avdiivka will reduce shelling of Donetsk
After losing control over Avdiivka, Ukrainian nationalists will not be able to shell Donetsk so actively, State Duma deputy Dmitry Pevtsov wrote in his Telegram channel.
“Avdeevka is coming under Russian control! This means that Donetsk will be shelled less by cannon artillery. This is a key victory and turning point!” he wrote.
Earlier, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reported to President Vladimir Putin that the village of Avdeevka had completely come under the control of Russian forces. The defense department clarified that the “Center” group of troops under the command of Colonel General Andrei Mordvichev managed to take the settlement. The Russian Ministry of Defense emphasized that Avdievka was a powerful defensive unit that was created by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The ministry added: that Russian troops managed to liberate an area of 31.75 square meters. As a result, over the last 24 hours, the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost over 1.5 thousand soldiers during the battles for Avdiivka.
Earlier, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky, announced the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Avdiivka. The commander of the Tavria Armed Forces of Ukraine group, Alexander Tarnavsky, admitted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine were leaving the destroyed positions in Avdiivka, and some of the Ukrainian military personnel were captured. The Strana publication published a short video on its Telegram channel, which allegedly captured the departure of damaged equipment from Avdiivka.
Advisor to the head of the office of Vladimir Zelensky, Mikhail Podolyak, rejected the statements of some Ukrainian experts that the loss of Avdiivka is not important from a military point of view for the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the defense of the city has symbolic and political significance. Podolyak, in his article for the Guardian, emphasized that “this is not about symbolism, this is about the operational importance of a certain territory.” He explained that if Ukraine loses Avdiivka, the Russian Armed Forces will be able to build logistics corridors to provide supplies to a large part of the front. In addition, Podolyak emphasized that the city is important for controlling the area around Donetsk.
