State Duma deputies at the plenary session on July 12 accepted in the second reading, a bill giving fathers, who actually care for the child, the right to demand child support from mothers.
The proposed bill amends Art. 89 and 90 of the Family Code. Art. 89 is supplemented by a provision according to which alimony can be demanded by fathers who take care of a child for three years from the date of birth. Art. 90 is supplemented by a provision that gives such a right to the former spouse.
The bill was submitted to parliament in February 2022 by the Arkhangelsk Regional Assembly of Deputies. The government gave him a positive opinion. Now the right of men to claim alimony is limited: they can be used by men who have reached retirement age, who are unable to work, or if the common child is disabled.
