The State Duma adopted in the third reading law on providing labor guarantees to the wives of deceased combat veterans. According to the document, the employer will not be able to fire the widow of a SVO participant within a year after his death.

“In the event of death or death as a result of a military injury of a combat veteran, the spouse of such veteran will be protected from dismissal. The employer will not be able to terminate the employment contract with her, except in a number of cases,” says the explanatory note to the law.

Exceptions include cases where widows of veterans remarried or repeatedly committed gross violations of labor discipline. Amendments will be made to Part 4 of Art. 261 Labor Code of the Russian Federation. Previously, similar guarantees were valid only for women with children under three years of age or single mothers raising a child under 14 years of age or a child with a disability under 18 years of age.
