The US authorities call the transfer of cluster munitions in the new aid package to Ukraine “a difficult decision.” The White House administration and President Joe Biden made this choice based on important circumstances, said Matthew Miller, a spokesman for the US State Department.
During the briefing, he explained that Ukraine is now conducting counter-offensive operations and needs a large number of artillery shells. He noted that the stocks of artillery required by the Armed Forces of Ukraine are currently running out. Therefore, the United States decided to fill this gap in order to prevent the possibility of depleting the Ukrainian arsenal.
Miller believes that this will allow the Ukrainian military not to experience shortages of ammunition.
