Putin congratulated the President of Uzbekistan Mirziyoyev on his re-election

Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the current President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on his re-election. Telegram published on the Kremlin website.

“The convincing victory in the elections confirms your high political authority, testifies to the broad popular support for your course of large-scale reforms aimed at further dynamic development of the country, strengthening its international position, protecting the rights and interests of citizens,” the document says.

Putin said that he highly appreciates Mirziyoyev’s principled line of strengthening relations between Russia and Uzbekistan. The Russian leader also expressed confidence that the countries would ensure the expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation and coordination in regional and international affairs. In conclusion, Putin wished the President of Uzbekistan “good health, prosperity and success.”

Earlier today, the CEC of the republic informedthat Mirziyoyev wins the presidential election with 87.05% of the vote. According to the agency, the turnout in the elections was 79.8% (15.6 million citizens of the country voted).

The presidential elections in Uzbekistan were held ahead of schedule on July 9. Already by 11:00 elections recognized held, since the turnout exceeded the required threshold and amounted to 33.54%. Voting ended at 20:00 (18:00 Moscow time) on the same day.

In May, the Constitution of Uzbekistan was amended, according to which Mirziyoyev received the right to run for this post twice more. If he wins the current and future elections, he will be able to lead the country until 2037. His mandate before the amendments expired in 2026. In 2021, Mirziyoyev won the presidential election with more than 80% of the vote, with a turnout of 80.04%.
