Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, again accused the United States and its allies of unwillingness to take into account the position of Palestine. At the same time, the diplomat said that Israel does not have the right to self-defense, since it is an occupying power. Meanwhile, Iran became the chairman of the UN international human rights forum. Kommersant FM political commentator Dmitry Drize believes that the settlement process in the region is at an active stage.

The Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, rejected Israel’s right to self-defense, since the latter is an occupying power. The diplomat referred to the 2004 opinion of the International Court of Justice.

At the same time, Russia recognizes the right of the Jewish state to ensure its security. But with the caveat that security can be fully guaranteed only “in the event of a just solution to the Palestinian problem.” But, of course, the United States of America is to blame for everything – they torpedo constructive decisions and impose illegitimate sanctions.

Although if you look at the opinion of the International Court of 2004, we are talking about recognizing the construction by Israel of the so-called separation wall in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem and the lands around it, as a violation of international law. The term “occupied” is, of course, used there, but as for self-defense, nothing is said about this.

However, let’s leave this without comment. We are not international lawyers, after all. It is only necessary to note that Mr. Nebenzi’s speech had a wide public response. In particular, in Israel all this is actively discussed, and one cannot say that in a positive context. And there are even opinions expressed that good bilateral relations are no longer a priority for the Kremlin.

Actually, let’s move on to the second interesting event on the international agenda: Iran, in order of priority, became the chairman of the Social Forum of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. The main objective of this event is to strengthen the civil society of UN member countries and exchange relevant experience. In this case, comments are also unnecessary.

However, it appears that these institutions have successfully torpedoed themselves. In this regard, we can conclude that the UN and all its structures are finally dropping out of the list of mediators in resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and others too. At the same time, for some reason, it is the very bad United States that is looking for a peaceful solution.

Various leaks are published by the world press, for example, the option of allowing the Hamas leadership to leave the Gaza Strip in exchange for the release of Israeli hostages. And this territory is subsequently planned to be transferred under temporary control to certain international forces. Moreover, one gets the impression that Russia is somehow moving away from the processes taking place in the region.
