Denis Stepankov, the son of former Russian Prosecutor General Valentin Stepankov, has died at the age of 47. His body was discovered in an apartment on Dubininskaya Street in Moscow by his father. TASS with reference to medical services, he writes that the cause of Mr. Stepankov’s death was acute heart failure.

Valentin Stepankov told MSK1.RUthat he last spoke to his son on the phone on April 12. They agreed to meet on April 14, but before the scheduled meeting, Denis Stepankov stopped communicating.

“The phone didn’t answer, so I became wary and went to him. At home, the apartment was locked from the inside, I myself invited the repairman, they were forced to open the doors, and they found him already dead on the bed. An autopsy is still being performed today, most likely, something related to the heart,” said Mr. Stepankov.

Medical services told TASS that Denis Stepankov’s death was due to natural causes. According to the agency’s interlocutor, the son of the former prosecutor general died due to acute heart failure. He noted that no traces of violence were found on the body of Denis Stepankov.

Valentin Stepankov is the first Prosecutor General of Russia, a position he held in 1991–1993. Denis Stepankov graduated from the International Law Institute of the Russian Legal Academy of the Ministry of Justice of Russia, Candidate of Legal Sciences, worked in a subsidiary of Rosatom.
