The head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Alexander Kurenkov, said that the situation with wildfires in Russia remains difficult, and the forecast is still unfavorable. He spoke about the situation at a meeting of President Vladimir Putin with the government.

As Mr. Kurenkov clarified, the Ministry of Emergency Situations attracts airmobile groups, units of rescue centers and aviation to extinguish. If there is no threat to settlements, the Ministry of Emergency Situations helps the divisions of Rosleskhoz.

“The situation with natural fires remains difficult. The prognosis of development, unfortunately, is unfavorable. The main efforts of the EMERCOM of Russia are focused on protecting settlements from fires,” the minister noted (TASS quote).

Now Alexander Kurenkov is in the Trans-Baikal Territory, which also suffered from fires in late April and early May. In two settlements, the fire destroyed 9 houses. The fire situation in the region has already been stabilized, Mr. Kurenkov assured.

Vladimir Putin supported the idea voiced by the head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the governors of additional assistance to people whose homes were damaged by fires. “This goes without saying, here are the proposals that were made by the minister, and the requests set out by the governors, must be taken into account when making operational decisions right now,” the president said (quoted by RIA Novosti).

In May, a state of emergency due to fires was introduced in the Kurgan, Omsk and Tyumen regions. Emergency mode in the Kurgan region canceled, but 21 people died there as a result of fires. Since the beginning of the year there have been established 46 perpetrators of large natural fires, seven criminal cases were initiated. Kremlin saidthat sees no need for further action.
