General designer for manned complexes and systems of Russia Vladimir Solovyov, during the conference “Earth – Orbit – Deep Space” on Tuesday, said that the operating life of the Russian Orbital Station (ROS) should be 50 years, which is necessary to develop the technology of flight to other planets.
According to Solovyov, the Russian orbital station is being designed “totally impudently”, and its operating life should be 50 years. As the specialist noted, during this time, with the help of ROS in Earth’s orbit, it will be possible to develop technologies that are necessary for flights to other planets of the solar system, primarily to Mars.
Soloviev added that the lunar ship should be based on a reliable transport system, and the Martian ship, in turn, should be a modular station, which, from the point of view of reliability and performance, should be tested in advance in low-Earth orbit.
