The IFA, the show that marks the start of the new school year for consumer electronics, opens its doors this Friday in the German capital.

The change in tone is radical. In the aisles of the Berlin electronics fair (IFA), the major European event in the sector, the time has come to highlight environmental commitments, while the subject was little mentioned during the last editions, before the pandemic.

During presentations, manufacturers no longer only talk about Oled, 4K or 8K screen resolution, photo sensors with ever more pixels or sound quality, but also respect for the environment, durability products, of recycling… Brands are well aware of the urgency of acting for the climate and to meet the demand of consumers who are increasingly sensitive to such arguments. Some will see it as greenwashing, others as necessary commitments in this period marked by the consequences of climate change. For manufacturers, it is a question of finding the right balance between this imperative and the presentation of new products.
