Russian scientists have come up with a way to recognize human emotions

They suggested using animated images

A new way of learning to recognize emotions was proposed by Russian scientists. It is based on the use of animated videos instead of regular videos or photos.

Usually healthy people, as a rule, do not have difficulty recognizing the emotions of interlocutors. Problems arise in those who suffer from emotional disorders, including depression and anxiety, as well as autism, schizophrenia and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).

As MK was told at the Higher School of Economics, experts, together with colleagues from the Southern Federal University, proposed making the experiment more like a real-life situation. To do this, they used animated images of heroes who participated in various life situations. Scientists applied the so-called morphing technology to the faces of the characters (creating the visual effect of a smooth transformation of one object into another). 48 videos were created, each consisting of 12 frames. On them, the animated face was transformed from a neutral expression to one of the main emotions: anger, sadness, joy, disgust, surprise and fear. This effect would be difficult to achieve with video. It is assumed that this technique in the future can be used to more effectively teach the perception of human emotions to people who experience certain difficulties with this.
