The Secretary of the Security Council of Abkhazia did not rule out participation in the Union State

Secretary of the Security Council of Abkhazia Sergei Shamba considers it possible for his republic to participate in the Union State of Russia and Belarus. According to him, Sukhum wants to start with economic interaction.
“In order for there to be political relations between states, there needs to be interest on both sides. Therefore, we want to start with economic cooperation. There is interest in Abkhazia in Belarus. Some Belarusian projects are being discussed in Abkhazia, and ours are being discussed in Belarus,” said Mr. Shamba “RIA News”.
The Secretary of the Security Council also stated that Abkhazia is strengthening its military capabilities. He noted that “some Georgian leaders have a fantasy that they can solve by force” the issue of restoring control over Abkhazia. “If you approach this pragmatically, then it is completely obvious what will happen to Georgia. And it will be bad for us, of course, but it will be completely bad for them,” added Mr. Shamba. He does not expect breakthroughs in relations with Georgia.
Belarus did not officially recognize the independence of Abkhazia from Georgia. In September 2022, President Alexander Lukashenko visited Abkhazia for the first time. President of the Republic Aslan Bzhania then stated that relations between the countries were acquiring a new character. Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia after the war with Georgia in 2008.
