The second power unit of the Belarusian NPP has been put into commercial operation

The acceptance committee, headed by Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Pyotr Parkhomchik, signed an act of acceptance for operation of the start-up complex of the second power unit of the Belarusian NPP, reported Ministry of Energy of the Republic.
“The commission’s decision is based on the positive conclusions of the supervisory authorities and the working commission of the Belarusian NPP, as well as on the basis of the license issued by the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the commercial operation of the second power unit,” the message says.
The Ministry of Energy also noted that since the unit was included in the unified energy system, it has already generated more than 2 billion kWh of electricity.
The construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant with two VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2400 MW, located near the city of Ostrovets, Grodno region, has been carried out since 2013 according to the Russian project “AES-2006”. The first power unit was put into commercial operation in June 2021. The second unit was connected to the network in May of this year and reached 100% capacity by the end of September. On October 24, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus issued a permit to operate the unit.
On October 31, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced the completion of the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The cost of the BelNPP project was estimated at $9 billion in 2013, including $6 billion for the construction of units, and $3 billion for the creation of infrastructure and a residential town. In April 2019, Lukashenko estimated the entire project at $7 billion.
The Belarusian president also stated that Minsk wants to receive compensation from the Russian side for the postponement of the commissioning of the station.
