Alien RNA, the scientist explained, can regulate processes in a human cell, causing allergies.
Leading Research Fellow, Institute of General Genetics. N.I. Vavilov RAS Konstantin Krutovsky spoke in an interview with “Gazete.Ru” about how the cause of allergies can theoretically be the impact of fragments of a foreign genome on human RNA.
“It is believed that there is no specific allergic reaction to RNA and DNA itself, but if foreign RNA and DNA change the properties of the cell or lead to the synthesis of some allergenic products, then theoretically this can, of course, cause allergic reactions,” Krutovsky said.
At the same time, he mentioned recent studies that show that, in a certain sense, the process of transferring genetic information between organisms that are not descendants of each other and generally belong to different biological species is possible. In this process, “short RNAs” are involved.
According to the geneticist, short RNAs form vesicles that can penetrate the cell membrane and interact with human messenger RNAs, affecting gene activity. Which, in turn, affect all sorts of physiological reactions and can cause allergies.
