Doctors near Moscow removed a foreign body
Diligent homework turned into a lung injury for a 10-year-old resident of Krasnogorsk. The boy was so passionate about the learning process that he decided to gnaw not only the granite of science, but also the cap of a ballpoint pen – however, during the next heavy sigh over the notebook, the unexpected happened. The plastic object that the student chewed in his mouth flew into the bronchi.
As it became known to “MK”, the other day a patient with wheezing and shortness of breath was admitted to the Krasnogorsk city hospital. As it turned out, while doing homework, the child was chewing on the cap from the pen and accidentally inhaled it. At first, the boy began to cough, but he stoically endured his bouts, embarrassed to tell adults about his trouble. However, after a couple of hours, when he already had asthma attacks, the student confessed to the incident to an adult. If he had lingered even an hour, pulmonary edema could have been fatal. But fortunately there were no complications. After an emergency examination, the doctors confirmed the presence of a foreign object in the child’s bronchus and made a decision to be hospitalized in the pediatric surgical department.
“Under general anesthesia, using a flexible video bronchoscope and special endoscopic equipment, we removed the foreign body from the right bronchus, restoring the patient’s airway patency. The minimally invasive operation was successful and took about 15 minutes,” said Viktor Tseplyaev, an endoscopist at the Krasnogorsk hospital.
At the moment, the boy feels well and has already been discharged.
