The SARS-CoV-2 virus may find a new target by the end of the year and return to the animal world. This was told by a specialist in especially dangerous infections, doctor of medical sciences, immunologist Vladislav Zhemchugov.
He suggested that Omicron would be the last strain within the pandemic to circulate among humans. According to Zhemchugov, the massive, rapid “seeding” of the planet with omicron, with a decrease in mortality, just indicates the imminent return of the virus to the fauna.
The immunologist suggested that by the end of the year it may become clear in the environment of some animals the virus will continue to spread as a new natural focal infection. At the same time, Zhemchugov stressed that he can return to people with a decrease in collective immunity in the world.
There are other risks as well. The doctor said that there is no guarantee that the next mutation of SARS-CoV-2 will not arise, which can bypass herd immunity.
