The Sakharov Center removed property from the academician’s museum-apartment

Vyacheslav Bakhmin, chairman of the board of the Sakharov Center, who was recognized by the Justice Ministry as a foreign agent, said the organization had completely vacated Academician Andrei Sakharov’s apartment museum on Zemlyanoy Val in Moscow. According to Bakhmin, things from the apartment were transferred to a neighboring apartment, which belongs to the relatives of the academician.
He also added that from February 18 to February 28, the Sakharov Center removed everything that was possible from this apartment, and now it is already at the disposal of the city of Moscow.
Earlier, on January 26, Bakhmin reported that the Sakharov Center was given a month to leave the archive apartment provided by the Moscow government on an indefinite lease. The organization was also ordered to leave other premises in Moscow within three months.
The Moscow City Property Department explained this requirement by the legislation on foreign agents, since the Sakharov Center was recognized as such in 2014. In addition, on February 7, the Andrei Sakharov Foundation (USA), affiliated with the Sakharov Center, was recognized as an undesirable organization.
