The RVIO named the number of missing people during the Great Patriotic War

During the Great Patriotic War, more than 2 million Soviet soldiers went missing, said Mikhail Myagkov, scientific director of the Russian Military Historical Society (RVIO).
In a conversation with RIA Novosti, he noted that it would take decades to discover and identify the remains of missing Soviet soldiers.
Myagkov recalled that in the early 90s, the General Staff of the Armed Forces estimated the irretrievable losses of the Red Army during the Great Patriotic War at 8.6 million people. He noted that from this number it is difficult to determine the number of missing people, but their names are gradually being established.
Myagkov said that during the work of the RIO, more than 11 thousand remains of Soviet soldiers were found, of which 800 people were identified. He also expressed hope that artificial intelligence will help this work in the future.
