International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8, this year fell in the middle of the week – on Wednesday, but it will still be a day off in Russia, according to the established holiday calendar for 2023. In addition, on the eve of Tuesday, March 7, the working day will be reduced by one hour. On February 28, journalists were reminded of this in the Federal Service for Labor and Employment (in Rostrud).
“In accordance with the production calendar, one day is allotted for the celebration of International Women’s Day, the transfer of days off is not provided,” the ministry said in a statement. They also added that since Tuesday, March 7 is a pre-holiday day, the working day for all workers will be reduced by one hour.
Prior to this, days off during the working week in Russia were on the occasion of Defender of the Fatherland Day. All days from February 20 to February 22 were working, and then the whole country rested. Thus, the weekend began on February 23, when the men’s holiday is celebrated in Russia, and continued until the 26th.
The government approved the full schedule of non-working days for this year in August 2022. According to this document, after International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8, the next “long weekend” will be from April 29 to May 1 and from May 6 to 9. In addition, the non-working holidays will also fall on June 10-12 and November 4-6 this year.
