The Russians decided to return to Europe during the May holidays

Demand for travel abroad has tripled

At the beginning of May 2024, Russians will have two portions of short holidays: from April 28 to May 1, and then from May 9 to 12. Many have planned small trips for these days, not only in Russia, but also abroad. More and more tourists are thinking about returning to travel to Europe – this data was shared by representatives of one of the popular hotel booking services. Demand for foreign hotels has tripled compared to last year.

The demand of Russian tourists is growing fastest in France, South Korea, Italy, Georgia and Uzbekistan. According to the service, the number of hotel bookings abroad has tripled, which indicates increased user interest in international travel.

Abkhazia turned out to be the most affordable foreign country in May 2024: one night in a hotel costs an average of 6,100 rubles, and tourists come here for an average of 4 days. In second place is Belarus: 8,800 rubles per day in an average hotel. A night in Uzbekistan will cost 9,600 rubles, and in Armenia – 10,500 rubles.

European countries will cost significantly more. Thus, the average cost of a night in a hotel in Italy was estimated at 20,500 rubles (when booking through Russian resources), and in France – 21,100 rubles. At the same time, those tourists who are planning to go to Europe go for a longer period – at least 7-8 days. Shorter trips are rendered pointless due to logistical difficulties (Europe can only be reached by connecting flights) and bureaucratic delays in obtaining a visa.

As for the cost of air tickets, a flight to Paris (from April 28 to May 9) will cost a Muscovite at least 73 thousand rubles. You can get to Rome and back for 68 thousand, and to Venice for 76 thousand rubles. Tickets to Nice will cost the same.

According to analysts, the growing popularity of booking hotels abroad for the May holidays this year is due to the recovery of the global tourism industry after the pandemic, a variety of offers and special promotions for Russian tourists.
