Athletes from the Russian wheelchair curling team took part in the weekly physical education event “5 versts”. These days they are conducting training camps at the Vostok base. The organizers invited Russian athletes to overcome a fixed distance of 5 km together, the press service of the Ministry of Sports of the Sakhalin Region reported.

“The Sakhalin region joined the all-Russian project “5 versts” in August of this year. Now every Saturday lovers of a healthy lifestyle gather in our city park. Participants can complete the distance using running and walking, as well as using a wheelchair for people with musculoskeletal disorders. The main thing is desire,” said one of the organizers of the Sakhalin race, Ivan Nazimkin.

One of the long-time participants and fans of “Five Versts” is Vitaly Danilov, a member of the Russian national wheelchair curling team. He invited to take part in Saturday’s event not only his fellow athletes, but also Sakhalin athletes from PODA, for whom a master class was held the day before.

“I joined this movement in 2019. Back then it was called parkrun. I wanted to paint my life with new colors and meet other lovers of a healthy lifestyle. Today the weather is expected to be quite severe, but this only gives strength and new emotions during the distance,” noted Vitaly Danilov.
