The Russian surfing team tested the waves on Sakhalin

The national surfing team continues to prepare for the Russian championship, which will be held in the island region from 18 to 27 September. Since the end of August, eight athletes have been trying waves in Nevelsk, Yablochny, Okhotsk and Tikhaya Bay – potential places for major starts, the press service of the Ministry of Sports of the Sakhalin Region reported.

“The main goal is to ride your waves, feel their energy, and also work out maneuvers that “lame” athletes. So far, only the adult team is here, mostly women, but other surfers will come closer to the starts, – said the head coach of the national team Sergey Mysovsky. – I want to say a huge thank you to the Sakhalin Surfing Federation: they helped us with the organization of the competition even when the idea first appeared, told us about the area, helped with the equipment and not only. Seeing their desire to surf, as well as the people they were able to put on the board, I think Sakhalin has a lot of potential and a good future in this direction. Together we will be able to develop surfing not only in the Far East, but in Russia as a whole.”

Team training takes place every day. In case of unsuitable sea waves, athletes work out the necessary skills in the pool and on the ground, pay attention to breath holding, balance and other components.

“Before that, I was only passing through Sakhalin, so as a surfer I am only discovering your region. There is just enough to ride and train, it’s an island! The variety of waves is simply colossal. I am glad that surf schools have started working in the Sakhalin Region. In such a short time, athletes and coaches are already showing a good level of training,” five-time Russian surfing champion Evgeny Isakov shared his impressions.
