The Supreme Court rejected a Russian man who tried to return a donated iPhone from his ex-girlfriend

The Supreme Court of Russia refused to satisfy the man’s claim against his ex-lover – he wanted to return the iPhone he had once given to the girl, as well as the funds spent on renovating her apartment and purchasing household appliances, RAPSI reports.

The man tried to recover over 450 thousand rubles from his ex-girlfriend, claiming that she had enriched herself at the expense of him and her mother.

The Supreme Court emphasized that gifts during courtship are part of a personal relationship. The very fact of the presence of gifts does not imply the existence of civil obligations between partners.

The court explained that money and other property are not subject to return as unjust enrichment if they were transferred by a person who knew that he had no obligations to the recipient.
