In Yakutia they understand the importance of popularizing wrestling as a means for the physical and moral development of various groups of citizens, including students, reports the NEFU press service.
Organizing and holding wrestling competitions is one of the important ways to attract students to regularly practice this sport. In this context, a meeting to discuss the holding of the Russian Championship took place during the XXXV International Freestyle Wrestling Competition among men and women, known as the “Ivan Yarygin Cup,” on January 27 at NEFU.
During the meeting, representatives of the North-Eastern Federal University, the Russian Wrestling Federation, the Ministry of Sports of Yakutia and the National Student Wrestling League Association signed a memorandum on organizing the Russian student championship. This tournament, which will be held in May in the capital of the republic, will serve as a qualifying stage for participation in the All-Russian Olympiad 2024, the World University Championships in 2024 in China, as well as the Russian championships in 2025.
The student championship will be dedicated to the memory of Mikhail Nikolaev, the first president of the republic and the first president of the Yakutia Wrestling Federation.
