Ural Airlines pilot Sergei Belov, who made an emergency landing of the plane in a wheat field near Novosibirsk, explained that he decided to land the aircraft on the ground because the engine could fail due to a lack of fuel on board.
“…if there is an engine failure, the fuel will run out in 8 minutes… It will be more difficult to land the aircraft, because the other additional systems will also turn off,” Belov said on Rossiya 24.
He noted that he reported the situation to the dispatcher and consulted with the co-pilot about the need to find a platform from above for a safe landing.
According to the pilot, over the past 1.5 years he has repeatedly practiced similar emergency situations in the simulator, as well as emergency evacuations.
According to the airline, on September 12, while landing in Omsk, the aircraft’s “green” hydraulic system, one of three on the airliner, failed. The plane made a second circle, then the captain decided to land in Novosibirsk.
It is known that no one was seriously injured as a result of the landing. Five passengers sought medical attention due to bruises and high blood pressure.
Law enforcement agencies opened a criminal case under an article on violation of safety rules for the operation of air transport.
