On the website of the Russian Orthodox Church appeared message about sending fake letters to dioceses on behalf of Patriarch Kirill. The exact contents of the letters are not given. However, as RIA Novosti reported with reference to the Russian Orthodox Church, they contained statements about migration and the army.
“In the context of the upcoming presidential elections in Russia, an attempt to compromise church-state cooperation, built on the Church’s non-interference in politics, comes from forces interested in dividing and polarizing Russian society,” the Russian Orthodox Church says on its website. Church representatives also believe that the authors of the letter also “want to undermine the trusting relationship between the Orthodox and Muslims of Russia.”
The Russian Orthodox Church noted that the text of the letter contains stylistic and spelling errors, as well as “theoretical concepts that can only appear in the head of a poorly educated provocateur.” It is also reported that the mailing was made from an email address unrelated to the Russian Orthodox Church.
“Please note that the church’s position on certain issues, as well as the authenticity of any document, can be verified as part of interaction with the department for relations between the Church and society and the media, as well as other competent church structures,” says the ROC website. To identify the author of the text, the Russian Orthodox Church will contact law enforcement agencies.
