Vladimir Legoyda said that the Russian Orthodox Church opposes the return of criminal punishment for sodomy.
Chairman of the Synodal Department of the Moscow Patriarchate for Church Relations with Society and the Media Vladimir Legoyda said that the Russian Orthodox Church is against the return of criminal punishment for sodomy.
According to him, in the criminal order, a person should not be punished for any sin.
“In this case, the position of the church is not to punish a person for falling into the sin of sodomy, but that he does not involve others in it,” Legoyda said in response to a question about whether it is necessary to return criminal offense for sodomy.
Earlier, the State Duma adopted bills in the first reading, according to which LGBT propaganda is prohibited and fines are imposed.
Recall that the head of the State Duma Committee on Family Affairs, Nina Ostanina, said that gay clubs are considered as establishments that promote non-traditional sexual relations, and can be closed on this basis after the entry into force of new laws banning LGBT propaganda.
