Rublev’s “Trinity” icon will be transferred to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra in early summer

The Trinity icon by Andrei Rublev will be transported to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra in the summer. This was stated by the head of the legal department of the Moscow Patriarchate, Abbess Ksenia (Chernega). Now the face is in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.

The shrine will be taken away from there on June 23, for the Feast of the Holy Trinity. The icon must have a permanent residence in the Lavra. This follows from the agreement that was signed by the Russian Orthodox Church and the Tretyakov Gallery last summer. Until January 5, the shrine was in the All-Russian Art and Scientific Center named after Grabar.

Let us remind you that the Tretyakov Gallery has kept the work of Andrei Rublev since 1929. This is one of the icons that was part of the iconostasis of the main cathedral of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. Some of the icons then remained in place and are still kept in the Lavra. The entire iconostasis was painted by Andrei Rublev in the 15th century.
