Patriarch Kirill signed a decree appointing Priest Alexy Alekseev as deputy chairman of the Synodal Department for Prison Ministry. The press service of the Russian Orthodox Church reported this.
“By the decree of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ dated February 5, 2024, the Deputy Chairman of the Synodal Department for Prison Ministry, Priest Alexy Alekseev, was appointed to the position of acting. Chairman of the Synodal Department for Prison Ministry in connection with the death of the Chairman of the Department, Bishop of Ramensky Irinarch,” stated in message.
The Synodal Department for Prison Ministry was formed in 2010. The list of department tasks includes interaction with human rights organizations, development of educational programs and training of priests for prison ministry, rehabilitation and social adaptation of convicts, provision of spiritual and moral assistance to convicts and employees of the penitentiary system.
