The Russian Orthodox Church and Prilepin received the largest presidential grants to help Donbass

The Presidential Grants Fund summed up the results of the competition to support social projects in the Donbass and help “compatriots abroad”. As part of the competition, 493 non-profit organizations received a total of 2 billion rubles. Vedomosti head of the fund Ilya Chukalin. The largest grants to help Donbass were given to the Russian Orthodox Church and co-chairman of the Just Russia – For Truth party Zakhar Prilepin.

The first place in terms of the size of the grant received was taken by the initiative “comprehensive medical and social assistance to the residents of Donbass and Ukraine”, proposed by the Central Clinical Hospital of St. Alexis Metropolitan of Moscow. 49.8 million rubles were allocated for it. Other competition winners include:

  • “All-Russian Student Corps of Rescuers” – 27.7 million rubles. for the creation of the Lugansk Republican Center for the Elimination of Natural Disasters and Catastrophes;
  • department for church charity and social service of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate – 27.4 million rubles. for the project “Church Assistance to Refugees” (donations for them will be collected by the headquarters and centers of the dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church);
  • Charitable Foundation “Memory of Generations” – 23.4 million rubles. for high-tech medical care for war veterans;
  • Zakhar Prilepin – 22.8 million rubles. for the “Gumconvoy Zakhar Prilepin” (involves sending aid to the LPR and DPR) and 14.9 million rubles. to the “Oplota of Donbass” (help to the residents of Izyum).

Sergei Kiriyenko, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration, reported that in 2022, 23 billion rubles were allocated for socially significant projects of non-profit organizations, which was a record for all the years of the foundation’s existence. He toldthat 3.3 billion rubles will be allocated to projects to support the residents of Donbass.

30 September President Vladimir Putin signed agreements on the accession to Russia of the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics, as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. This decision was made following the results of referendums held in four regions. None of the Western countries recognized them. The Constitutional Court of Russia, however, acknowledged constitutionality of treaties on new territories.
