The head of the publishing council of the Russian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan of Kaluga and Borovsk, Kliment (Kapalin), advised Russians to devote the New Year holidays to reading books that make you think about the eternal.
“Take a read of useful spiritual literature,” said Clement, “one that makes one think about the meaning of life, about sin and virtue.”
According to the clergyman, “we must protect moral purity.” He lamented that the average Russian teenager “begins to smoke at the age of 12-14, or engages in some other vice.” Children must be strong and healthy for the whole country to be strong and healthy, he added.
“To defeat Russia, morality must be destroyed,” the metropolitan added.
