On December 2, the opening ceremony of the Russian Karate Championship took place in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. This is the first time that competitions of this level are being held in the Far East, the press service of the Ministry of Sports of the Sakhalin Region reported.
The competition takes place at the Vostok Training Center. 700 athletes from 51 regions of the country are participating in the tournament. The gold medalists of the tournament will be able to compete at the European Championships in 2024.
On the first day of the competition, December 1, karatekas aged 14-17 years competed in the disciplines of kata, kumite and team kata. In the second, athletes aged 16-18 took to the tatami of the Vostok Training Center. The third day of the competition will give spectators spectacular fights in the age group of 18 years and older.
