The Russian government handed over part of the Azov Sea to the military in Crimea

The Russian government transferred part of the Azov Sea waters to a military unit in Kerch. The corresponding order was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. The text of the document is posted on website publication of legal acts.
“To provide military unit 6942 for 20 years for separate water use of a part of the Azov Sea… to ensure the defense of the country and the security of the state,” the text of the document states.
Military unit 6942 is located in the Crimean city of Kerch. Near the city in 2018, the Crimean Bridge (Kerch Bridge) was built, which connects the Crimean Peninsula with the Krasnodar Territory.
After the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, the bridge came under attack. On October 8, 2022, an explosion occurred on the bridge, which caused the collapse of two spans of the automobile part of the bridge and the fire of seven fuel tanks of the train. As a result of the incident, four people died. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on terrorism (Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
On July 17, 2023, the bridge was attacked by two unmanned surface vehicles, damaging the roadway. Two people died.
