Russia has long spoken about the presence of candidates for permanent members of the UN Security Council (SC), said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
“We ourselves have long advocated the expansion of the Security Council in both categories. It is commendable that finally the American president announced what the Russian Federation has been talking about for a long time, in favor of which it speaks out, ”said Ryabkov (quote according to TASS). The Russian side, according to diplomats, believes that there are candidates who are quite worthy of becoming permanent members of the Security Council.
US President Joe Biden on the eve called for an increase in the number of permanent members of the UN Security Council. According to him, the time has come for the organization to “become more inclusive – in a way that meets the needs of the modern world.”
French President Emmanuel Macron made a similar proposal. He noted that the Security Council should have more permanent members to make it more representative.
