The Russian government has allowed domestic companies to produce analogues of the diabetes drug Ozempic without obtaining the official consent of the Danish copyright holder. The corresponding order was published on Thursday, December 28.

The permit was issued to the Russian pharmaceutical companies Geropharm and Promomed, and is valid until December 31, 2024.

Manufacturers assured that this decision of the Russian authorities will provide citizens of the Russian Federation with the drugs they need to treat diabetes.

The Danish medicine Ozempic stopped being supplied to Russia in November 2022. In September, Geropharm announced that it had completed clinical trials of Semavik, a Russian replacement for the Danish drug. It was submitted for registration.

Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin previously discussed with the head of Roszdravnadzor Alla Samoilova the process of import substitution in the field of medical supplies and equipment. The head of government emphasized the need to ensure the quality and availability of medicines in pharmacies, hospitals, and clinics.
