Governors of the Rostov and Voronezh regions Vasily Golubev and Alexander Gusev, as well as the heads of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR) Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik entered into an agreement on the creation of the “Donbass” commonwealth. The document was signed today on the sidelines of a United Russia panel discussion, which took place at the Sambek Heights memorial complex in the Rostov region.

The Donbass Commonwealth was created for the joint development of the territories of all four constituent entities of the Russian Federation, reported press service of the governor of the Rostov region. “The regions intend to actively interact in trade, economic, scientific, technical, social, cultural and other spheres,” the statement says.

Among the areas of joint work, Vasily Golubev named the production of unmanned vehicles, the creation of a new common transport framework, and the joint use of the potential of the Azov Sea.

“It is absolutely no coincidence that this collaboration is aimed at ensuring that our enterprises, our industry, and our agriculture develop in mutually beneficial directions,” noted Denis Pushilin.

The agreement on the creation of the commonwealth is designed for five years and will come into force on March 1, 2024. Before this, the document must be ratified by the parliaments of all four constituent entities. The highest governing body of Donbass will be a council, which includes regional heads.
