The role of the MCD in improving transport accessibility of the Moscow region is assessed

The transport system of the country’s largest Moscow agglomeration transports a huge number of people every day. Regional cities, closely connected with the capital with a well-functioning public transport mechanism, have formed the so-called pendulum migration. Leading expert at the Institute of Transport Economics and Transport Policy of the National Research University Higher School of Economics Konstantin Trofimenko told how the capital region transports a flow of people from cities such as Krasnogorsk, Dolgoprudny, Lyubertsy, Ramenskoye and others to work in Moscow and back.

According to the expert, city authorities are effectively addressing the issue of organizing comfortable transportation of passenger traffic that is growing every year. He notes that the systematic development of modern passenger transport based on railway transport helps in this task.

The four MCD lines were a real boon for the city. In total, they carry about 1.3 million passengers per day. The system allows residents to build convenient direct routes without transfers, as well as free transfers to the metro, MCC and between diameters.

“For comfortable transfers, transport hubs are being created – for example, Okruzhnaya. Here, the transfer is carried out in a few minutes in a single circuit; passengers do not need to go outside. Such nodes make it possible to relieve congestion in the central sections of the metro and highways,” summed up Konstantin Trofimenko.
