The head of the ROC Pozdnyakov considers the decision of the IOC on the admission of Russians an admission of his own mistake

The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) regards the decision of the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the admission of athletes from Russia to participate in international competitions as an admission of their own mistake, which was committed a year ago. This statement was made to journalists by the head of the ROC Stanislav Pozdnyakov.

The IOC in February 2022 recommended that international sports federations prevent Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international competitions.

On Tuesday, the committee’s executive committee, following the results of the first day of meetings in Lausanne, recommended that Russians who do not support the SVO in Ukraine be allowed to compete as neutral athletes.

“We regard today’s decision of the IOC Executive Committee as an admission of our own mistake of February 28 last year,” Pozdnyakov said.

In his opinion, “the IOC has actually recognized the fallacy of its actions a year ago.”

He added that “now the recommendations of the IOC, which have been in force for more than a year, have been disavowed.”

The IOC also recommended that athletes associated with security agencies or the armed forces not be allowed to compete. In matters of admission of athletes from the Russian Federation, as recommended by the IOC, it is necessary to take into account their public statements, including in social networks, participation in rallies, as well as the facts of demonstrating CBO symbols, for example – Z.

The Executive Committee recommended not to consider Russian and Belarusian teams as participants in international tournaments in team sports.
