Immunologist: it is impossible to become infected with three viruses at once in a tridemic
Immunologist Vladislav Zhemchugov spoke on radio “TVNZ”is it possible to infect a person with several viruses at once?
According to the specialist, the probability of infection with several respiratory viruses at once is zero.
“The PCR method allows you to detect single viruses that are in the nasopharynx and get onto the cotton swab. And from here the legend is born that a person can have three viruses at once…” Zhemchugov explained, adding that the first virus activates the immune system, after which interferon is released, which blocks other infections.
In general, the expert assesses the epidemiological situation in the country as typical for the winter season. The surest way to protect yourself in a tridemic is vaccination, the immunologist concluded.
Currently, three viruses are spreading across Russia: influenza, ARVI and coronavirus.
