In Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the results of the Grand Prix in chess among schoolchildren were summed up. This was reported in the regional Ministry of Sports.
During 2022, four qualifying rounds were held. At each of them, the two strongest chess players received tickets to the final. The rest had a chance to earn Kaissa’s smile in the remaining stages, the number of which inexorably melted away, like a snowman forgotten by the owners under the hot May sun.
At the first stage, Artem Khusnulgatin and Mikhail Bambizo became finalists, at the second they were joined by Egor Makarov and Vladislav Chernyaev. The third ended with the victory of Albert Sin and Maxim Kosterin. At the fourth stage German Korostelev and Vadim Petrachenko grabbed the last two tickets. It was these chess players who formed the “magnificent eight”, which was waiting for the knockout playoffs.
“At each stage, the opponents played two games. With a score of 1:1, “Armageddon” was appointed, – said Tatyana Marinina, executive director of the Chess Federation of the Sakhalin Region.
Before everyone’s favorite and spectacular “Armageddon” it came already in the quarterfinals.
Egor Makarov and Maxim Kosterin finished “regular time” with a score of 1:1, and “Armageddon” was in favor of a more experienced chess player.
In other pairs, Artem Khusnulgatin won two games against Vadim Petrachenko, Mikhail Bambizo – against German Korostelev, Vladislav Chernyaev – against Albert Sin.

Once again, one of the winners was determined in “Armageddon”. It was Artem Khusnulgatin who sent Vlad Chernyaev straight into the “battle” for third place.
In the second pair, everything was a little more prosaic. Mikhail Bambizo put an end to Yegor Makarov’s dreams of triumph with two victories.
In the match for third place, Vladislav Chernyaev won the first game with White against Yegor Makarov and achieved a draw with a bronze tint in the replay.
The same scenario followed the final. In the first game, Artem Khusnulgatin, playing with White, forced Black’s king to sign his defeat with tears of blood.
In the replay, Mikhail Bambizo tried to level the score, but his opponent’s defensive redoubts turned out to be much stronger than graphene.

Peace negotiations were successful, bringing Artem Khusnulgatin the title of the strongest for the second year in a row. He extended his winning monopoly in the Grand Prix among schoolchildren for another year. And now he can rest on his championship laurels until next January.
But his rivals need to come up with something extraordinary to break this dominance.
