The Phuket News: Thailand’s Phuket island hit by heavy rains and flooding
On the Thai island of Phuket there was a flood caused by heavy rains, according to the local edition of The Phuket News.
The Thai Meteorological Department has warned that scattered thunderstorms are expected on 70% of the territory of this resort island, popular with Russians.
It is also reported that in the Bang Yai canal, which runs through the entire Phuket Town, the water level has risen to threatening levels. The underpass in front of the Central Floresta shopping center on the bypass road had to be closed due to flooding, which led to serious traffic delays.
In addition, the police had to close several streets in Phuket Town on July 9 due to their complete obstruction.
Flooding occurred in the busiest tourist area of the city – Patong, as well as on the well-known problem areas of Srisoonthorn Rd and Thepkrasattri Rd.
Earlier in Sochi, a storm warning was extended until July 12 due to heavy rains. Showers with thunder and hail are expected.
