The fastest growing human immunodeficiency virus epidemic is in the European Region. This was announced on Friday, December 1, by the Director of the European Bureau of the World Health Organization (WHO), Hans Kluge.
He said that in the European Region, 50% of people are diagnosed late and as a result are not reached earlier. At the same time, Kluge noted, the European Region has all the tools to combat this disease.
“In a number of countries in our region, mortality rates are unacceptably high, in others HIV transmission has been almost completely stopped,” said a WHO representative.
Let us note that December 1st is celebrated around the world as AIDS Day.
HIV infection is a slowly progressive infectious disease that occurs after infection with the human immunodeficiency virus. It attacks the patient’s immune system, causing the body to become susceptible to infections and tumors, which without proper treatment leads to the death of the patient.
