The agriculture of Ukraine will feel the negative impact of the “poisoning” of the soil with ammunition, the head of the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Moscow, Boris Michel, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to him, in conditions of hostilities there is always a lot of unexploded ordnance on the ground, which also ends up in land used for agricultural purposes. In this regard, he noted the need for mine clearance.

“As far as I know, the land is now heavily “poisoned” by unexploded ordnance, and this will have a detrimental effect on farmers and the agricultural sector for a long time if these areas are not demined,” he said.

Earlier, the United States and Britain announced plans to supply Kyiv with ammunition containing depleted uranium. At the same time, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova accused IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi of keeping silent about the problem of shells with depleted uranium. According to Zakharova, Grossi “simply doesn’t say enough” when answering questions about the use of such projectiles, which is absolutely unacceptable.
