Shoigu showed Kim Jong-un the frigate “Marshal Shaposhnikov” in Vladivostok

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un arrived on the Pacific Fleet frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov in Vladivostok, reported press service of the Russian defense department.

The North Korean leader was shown the missile systems and artillery installation of the frigate: as the Ministry of Defense clarified, “Marshal Shaposhnikov was built in the 1980s, and several years ago underwent a deep modernization. “Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, spoke about the characteristics of the ship and anti-submarine weapons located on the upper deck and superstructures – four-tube torpedo tubes and RBU-6000 rocket launchers,” the defense department said in a statement.

The modernized frigate can fight both submarines and surface targets at long ranges, according to the Ministry of Defense. Kim Jong-un was also told about the missile control systems installed on the Marshal Shaposhnikov.

The DPRK leader arrived in Russia on September 12 at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. On September 13, the leaders of the two countries met at the Vostochny cosmodrome. First, Putin and Kim Jong-un held talks in an expanded format, and then continued their meeting in a tete-a-tete format. On September 15, the North Korean leader visited Russian aircraft factories in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, where he assessed the demonstration flight of the Russian Su-35 fighter. In particular, he visited the Gagarin aircraft plant and the production center UAC “Yakovlev.”
