Metropolitan Pavel of Vyshgorod and Chernobyl, the vicar of the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, denied an attempt to smuggle church valuables, with which he was detained at the border in the Chernivtsi region. He recorded a video with explanations.

According to the metropolitan, he brought with him icons from the church shop, “which have no historical or cultural value.”

Pavel also stated that he and his companions were “stuck” for a long time, kept at the border for several hours, after which he “blessed the SBU, presented chocolates and calendars” and took pictures with everyone, and then received permission to leave.

“We didn’t have anything of value!” Ukrainian media quote Pavel. “Woe to those people who spread lies.”
